  Annual Convention Relocates to
Hilton Head:
 
Changes in Latitudes...
Changes in Attitudes.

The 2005 Annual Convention is moving to the Westin Resort at Hilton Head Island. Due to the recent hurricanes that hit the Grand Caymans, the GSCPA will celebrate the Centennial in South Carolina. Mark your calendars for June 26-29. Join us for sun, fun, and a great celebration.
Tax Info:

Beginning with the 2004 tax filing season, taxpayers filing Georgia Form 700 (Georgia Partnership Income Tax Return) are required to include a copy of their federal Form 1065 (U.S. Return of Partnership Income), including all Schedules K-1. Click here for more details.

2005 Standard Mileage Rates Set
- The IRS released the optional standard mileage rates to use for 2005 in computing the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving expense purposes.

Guidance on Requirements for Disclosing Reportable Transactions - The Treasury Department and the IRS issued interim guidance reflecting changes to the requirements for disclosure of reportable transactions by taxpayers and material advisors made by the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004. Notice 2004-80 provides guidance to material advisors who are required to comply with the new reporting and list maintenance requirements, and invites comments from the public regarding rules and standards for implementation.

GSCPA Annual Tax Survey:

The GSCPA Taxation Section will hold its annual meetings with officials of the Atlanta IRS and the Georgia Department of Revenue in January 2005. These meetings give us the opportunity to present questions regarding practice issues and to work in cooperation with the IRS and the state to solve problems we may encounter. In preparation for these meetings, we annually ask our members to complete a questionnaire listing some of the issues that you would like raised. To complete the survey, please click here.

Take the Leap... at the 2004 Governmental A&A Conference
(course no. 13070); December 6; Cobb Galleria Centre; 8 hours credit under the GAO guidelines. Karl Johnson, with GASB, will present an extensive update on government issues. Myra Byrd, with the Carl Vinson Institute in Athens, will give tips to plan the interview in a government audit to include questions regarding SAS 99. Other topics include: detecting fraud in government; workpaper documentation, materiality and independence; and risk assessment including information security.
