CPA Day at the Gold Dome Kicks off 2015

CPA Day 2015

The Georgia Society of CPAs kicked off 2015 with one of the most important events of the year – CPA Day at the Gold Dome. This annual event gives attendees a first-hand look at the issues facing the accounting profession while providing them with an opportunity to network with Georgia’s elected officials to discuss topics of importance to CPAs and the clients they serve.

This year more than 100 members of The Georgia Society gathered from across the state at the Georgia State Capitol in honor of CPA Day at the Gold Dome. The agenda for the event included insight from high-profile House Majority Leader Rep. Larry O'Neal (R-Bonaire), as well as three Georgia CPA legislators: Rep. David Knight (R-Griffin), Rep. John Carson (R-Marietta), and Rep. David Wilkerson (D-Austell). GSCPA members had the privilege to meet with the newly appointed Department of Revenue Commissioner, Lynne Riley, prior to her presentation. Attendees also had the opportunity to shake hands with Governor Nathan Deal.

“CPA Day is a symbolic event for CPAs throughout the state. This opportunity provides GSCPA members with the ability to act as legislative consultants, advocates, and opinion shapers for Georgia’s legislators,” said Boyd Search, CEO of The Georgia Society of CPAs.

The Georgia Society of CPAs prides itself on acting as a voice for the CPA profession in Georgia as well as advocating for the interests of its members and Georgia’s business community before regulatory and legislative bodies.

“It means a lot to the Georgia General Assembly to hear from CPAs on their knowledge and experience of the respective industries they serve as well as on tax matters. I appreciate the help and support I have received from GSCPA and its members as it pertains to the House Ways and Means Committee. CPAs are a valuable resource and offer an objective view on what affects Georgia and our citizens,” said Rep. David Knight, CPA, secretary of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Other highlights from the agenda included a networking breakfast and the opportunity for members to meet one-on-one with their individual elected officials.
