GSCPA Announces Accounting Industry Raised over 700K Meals in Two Weeks
ATLANTA, GA—September 12, 2018—The Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA) and the Georgia Food Bank Association (GFBA) are pleased to announce the results of the fifth annual Georgia Accounting Food Fight, which took place Aug. 13 – 24. During the friendly, two-week competition, accounting professionals statewide raised food and funds for nine food banks across the state. Everything each team raises stays local and benefits the food bank that serves their community. Since its inception in 2014, the Georgia Accounting Food Fight has collectively raised $615, 546 and 55,185 pounds of food.
This year over 60 accounting firms and industry
accounting departments representing over 5,000 members of the industry competed
in the Food Fight, raising a record-breaking $174,367 and 5,915 pounds of food
for Georgia's food banks, the equivalent of 702,399 meals. This is more than a
28 percent increase over last year.
The GFBA presented awards in several categories including Food Fight Hero, Industry, Sole Proprietor, Big Four, Large Firm, Medium Firm and Small Firm. Teams earn points for raising food, funds, volunteering, and more. For the third year running, Sole proprietor Anna Abernathy, CPA, in Lawrenceville won the honor of Grand Prize Food Fight Hero, raising $4,750 and earning the most points per employee statewide. The Grand Prize Hunger Champion Winner is first time competitor Nichols, Cauley, & Associates, LLC, in Atlanta raising $15,486 and 158 pounds of food with the most points overall statewide. Nearly 1 in 4 children in Georgia is food
insecure, meaning they may not know where their next meal is coming from, and
more than 60% of Georgia’s kids rely on free and reduced meals at school. When
these same children are home during the summer months without this resource,
their families often struggle to put enough food on the table and demand for
support from the food banks increases. The Georgia Accounting Food Fight is
timed to help restock the shelves following the summer to ensure that kids and
families continue to be fed all year round.
“Boyd Search discussed the Food Fight with our
team at our retreat in May of this year. Robbie Eidson agreed to champion our
firm’s efforts. He and his team did an
excellent job of creating awareness of the needs families in our communities
and encouraging our employees and clients to participate. Thanks to Robbie and our entire Nichols
Cauley team for caring enough to make a difference.” Marlan Nichols, Nichols,
Cauley, & Associates, LLC
“This was our 1st year participating in the Georgia Accounting Food Fight. It was an amazing experience to see our various offices around the state help their local communities. It was even greater to see how the entire firm came together to fight hunger.” Robbie Eidson, Nichols, Cauley, & Associates, LLC
"We are so grateful to The Georgia Society of CPAs and each and every accounting professional who decided to step up and fight hunger during the Georgia Accounting Food Fight. It is incredible to see the passion and leadership of this industry year after year. The 700,000 meals they raised this year will make a true difference in the lives of the kids and families served each and every day by the food banks. Our communities could not grow and thrive without people like you," Danah Craft, Executive Director, Georgia Food Bank Association.
