GSCPA Elects New Chair for 2022-23 Year
Deborah Thaw, CPA, CGMA Elected Chair of GSCPA Board of Directors for 2022-23 Year
ATLANTA (June 20, 2022)- Debbie Thaw, CPA, partner at Thaw & Company P.C. CPA of St. Simons Island Georgia has been elected chair of The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA) Board of Directors for the 2022-23 fiscal year. Mrs. Thaw was selected at the Society’s annual business meeting in Rockport, Maine.
“Debbie is simply a doer. And for the profession she has been leading by example for decades, giving endlessly of her time and treasure,” says GSCPA CEP Boyd Search. “As the landscape under, around, and in the profession continues to shift, Debbie’s no nonsense, take-action style will lend itself perfectly to guiding GSCPA in the next year.”
Thaw has been an active and involved member of GSCPA for 41 years. She previously has served as President of the Educational Foundation, terms as a statewide director and treasurer on the GSCPA Board of Directors, and has volunteered her time on numerous committee’s and task forces.
During her one-year term as chair, Mrs. Thaw is looking ahead at the accounting profession's challenges; relevance and integrity top the list. "We have got to remain relevant," she stresses. "As CPAs, we must preserve our position as trusted advisors in the business community. To do so, we must maintain our high ethical and educational standards." She believes GSCPA is doing a great job in facilitating these efforts and is excited to be able to continue the excellent work of her predecessors and the GSCPA staff.
Thaw views the accounting profession as a service industry. "As CPAs, we're out in the community, interacting with other professionals. We provide needed services. You can't get a loan, start a business, or buy a car without financial data. Our clients rely on us for many types of advice – what computer system to buy, which software best fits their needs, internal controls, staffing, payroll, etc. As CPAs, we are uniquely equipped to help with these decisions and many others," she says.
Mrs. Thaw and her husband, Darrell, own their own CPA firm, Thaw & Company, PC,CPA. Their practice is mostly accounting for small businesses, their owners, and tax preparation. Mrs. Thaw is proud to call St. Simons Island, Georgia home.
