Georgia CPAs Advocate for Profession at State Capitol for 2025 CPA Day

GSCPA Members Gather for 14th Annual CPA Day at the Gold Dome

ATLANTA (Feb 14, 2025) — Almost 150 members of The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA) recently met at the state Capitol to share their thoughts on important issues facing the accounting profession with their elected officials.

CPA Day attendees enjoyed a networking breakfast followed by a legislative update. Georgia Department of Revenue Commissioner, Frank O’Connell was in attendance.

“Attending GSCPA's CPA Day is an essential opportunity for our members to make their voices heard, advocate for the profession, and engage with lawmakers. It’s a chance to shape the future of accounting and ensure that CPAs continue to provide insights into the issues that the profession and Georgia businesses are facing," GSCPA CEO Boyd Search said.

Each member of the Georgia CPA Caucus: Chairman John Carson, Rep. David Wilkerson and Chairman Billy Hickman provided an update on key legislative issues. Attendees also received an update on House Bill 148 from GSCPA CEO Boyd Search and VP of legislative affairs, Don Cook. This bill will expand the pathways to obtaining a CPA license in Georgia and broaden practice privilege mobility to ensure a more flexible and accessible accounting profession. HB 148 has recently passed Full Committee. HB 148 was unanimously voted out of the House Regulated Industries Committee and will now move to the Rules Committee for consideration on the House floor. You can read more about HB 148 here.

Mercer University student, Georgiana Ungur said " I had a wonderful experience at CPA Day 2025; I enjoyed touring the Capitol, connecting with other CPAs from around the state hearing about the future of this industry. I learned so much about the legislative process, specifically House Bill 148, which would introduce two new pathways for obtaining the CPA license."

The Georgia Society of CPAs is committed to serving as the voice of the CPA profession in Georgia as well as advocating for the interests of its members and the business community before legislative and regulatory bodies.
