Georgia Society of CPA's Board of Directors Passes Resolution for the Black CPA Centennial

On January 29, 2021, GSCPA's Board of Directors passed a resolution acknowledging the Black CPA centennial.

of the Board of Directors of The Georgia Society of CPAs

for the Black CPA Centennial

 

WHEREAS 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the first Black CPA; and

 

WHEREAS John W. Cromwell, Jr., became the first Black CPA in the United States of America in 1921, and he and the Black CPAs after him, paved the way for today’s Black CPAs; and

 

WHEREAS we recognize and reflect on the influence and impact Black CPAs have had in shaping our profession and country; and

 

WHEREAS Georgia’s own Jesse B. Blayton, Sr., became the fourth Black CPA in the U.S. and provided the opportunity for many Black individuals to pursue their dream to become CPAs; and

 

WHEREAS The Georgia Society of CPAs is committed to increasing diversity in the CPA profession, and together with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Diverse Organization of Firms Inc., the National Association of Black Accountants Inc., the National Society of Black CPAs Inc., and the Illinois CPA Society recognizes the importance of celebrating and honoring the 100th anniversary of the first Black CPA; and

 

WHEREAS throughout 2021 The Georgia Society of CPAs will acknowledge some of the first Black CPAs and share their stories.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that The Georgia Society of CPAs recognizes 2021 as the 100th anniversary of the first Black CPA and expresses its deepest appreciation for those who paved the way for diversity in the CPA profession.
