James Freeman, CPA, Elected Chair of GSCPA Board of Directors
ATLANTA (June 30, 2019) - James Freeman, CPA, Co-Managing Partner of The Strategic Group of Atlanta, Georgia has been elected chair of The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA) Board of Directors for the 2019-20 fiscal year. Mr. Freeman was selected at the Society’s annual business meeting in Charleston, South Carolina.
“James’ dedication to his profession, community and clients is exemplary,” says GSCPA CEO Boyd Search. “His ability to adapt to the changes within the profession and find joy within new challenges will keep the GSCPA prepared for 2020 and beyond.”
During his one-year term as chair, Mr. Freeman is looking forward to working on the many initiatives facing the profession at state and national levels, including recruiting the next generation of CPAs, technological advances and their impact on the profession, working closely with chapters, membership engagement, Georgia government, diversity and inclusion, and any legislative updates that may come the profession’s way. He wants to continue the legacy that the Society and its leaders have built over the past 114 years.
“The Georgia Society of CPAs has been a true leader and ambassador for CPAs in the state, and I hope to strengthen that reputation by showcasing the talented constituents we have as members,” Mr. Freeman says.
Mr. Freeman has been a long-standing and active member of the GSCPA. He has previously served on the GSCPA Board of Directors for five years and is past president of the Atlanta Chapter. In addition to his service to the GSCPA, Mr. Freeman is the co-managing partner of The Strategic Group, a boutique investment management firm that focuses on tax advantaged investing. He is also on the Board of Governors of the Buckhead Club and is actively involved in numerous community, philanthropic, and volunteer organizations. Mr. Freeman obtained his Bachelor of Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in Biology with minors in both Chemistry and Business Administration, and soon after received a Master of Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, with a concentration in Tax and Real Estate. He later received a Masters of Business Administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business with a concentration in International Economics. Mr. Freeman lives in the metro Atlanta area with his wife, Jessica, and their children.
