Member Monday: Josh Portschy
Josh graduated Grad school from Mercer University in May of 2022. He is currently employed with Fricke & Associates LLC as a Tax Accountant.
He started his job search shortly after he started graduate school at Mercer. He was in the job search process when he heard about Fricke & Associates via LinkedIn. He ended up applying for the position back in September of 2021. He decision to accept the job at Fricke & Associates was due to multiple factors. The staff there was so nice and welcoming, and they had numerous knowledgeable accountants that he could pick their brains and learn from. He also really liked the firm’s location because it was right near his school. Their hours were flexible, and they gave Fridays off, which was something that appealed to him while working and going to school.
While he was in school to obtain his bachelors, he found a CPA firm in Dunwoody where he did an internship for 2 busy seasons. After that, he went to a private company for a few years where he did financial accounting. Once he knew he wanted to become a CPA, he pursued his Masters of Accounting and decided to go back to into the Public Accounting sector.
When he was asked what advice he would give to current students on how to find their first job right out of college; he says he would advise them to get their foot in the door and learn as much as possible with any company. Gaining work experience and the knowledge from a CPA firm beats any teachings from school. My best advice is to find a good company and climb the ladder; work hard and make a good impression. This will be helpful for you in the long run.
