Member Monday: Nick Bruner

Say hello to Nick for this week’s edition of Member Monday!

Nick is originally from Albany (GA) and his is wife from Augusta so they’re both transplants in the Northeast Georgia area. He went to college in Tennessee and then moved to Athens to gain the extra hours for the CPA at UGA. That’s how he ended up in Gainesville. He and his wife have two children: Mae (6) and Jack (4) and a sixteen-year-old beagle Luke. They love to travel as a family and experience as much as possible. They’ve been all over and are lucky enough to have their children with them most of the time and packing in as much as possible. They go to sporting events as a family (Braves, UGA, Falcons, Hawks, etc.), and even take in museums, aquariums, zoos; you name it they visit it!

He grew up around the construction industry and farming. Specifically, he worked with his dad who is an electrician. So, he is actually pretty handy and could wire up most anything in your house. Sports and outdoors are his passion, he’s a big baseball fan and actually played professionally (very briefly) before going into accounting. He loves to get outside! He likes hunting, fishing, and getting out on Lake Lanier.

Currently he is the Treasurer of Elachee Nature Science Center.  He has held Board and Executive Board positions in the area over the years to include: United Way, Junior Achievement, Gainesville First United Methodist Church, Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, Gainesville Jaycees, Local NE Chapter of GSCPA, and Ducks Unlimited and he is also a Kiwanis Member. Nick has been with The Society for 16 years and has served on various Task Force and Committees including the Annual Convention Task Force, the A&A Task Force, the YCPA Advisory Council, and the A&A Advisory Council.

When he was asked why he chose the CPA Profession, he responded, “Versatility. There’s just so much you can do and selfishly, everyone wants to be wanted right? There’s always someone looking for a CPA to do a host of things whether it’s related to CPA work or not. We even get asked to do things those other professions handle. That’s how much regard CPA’s have. They are trusted to get things done at a high level even though that may not be what you traditionally think a CPA would do.“

Nick, we are so thankful for your years of service to GSCPA! We are so excited to see how you continue to help shape the profession!

The Member Monday series will highlight a different GSCPA member every other week. GSCPA is excited to introduce you to your fellow members and let you get to know a little more about them. Stayed tuned for the next Member Spotlight.
