Michael Mescon
Michael H Mescon, PhD The Mescon Group Dr. Michael Mescon is dean emeritus of Georgia State University's College of Business where he was the first holder of the Ramsey Chair of Private Enterprise in the word. He helped establish over 200 chairs of private enterprise globally. These efforts ignited the entrepreneurship movement in higher education. He currently holds the Ramsey Chair of Private Enterprise at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University. In 1968, Dr. Michael H. Mescon founded The Mescon Group, an organization design consulting firm. In 1999, Dr. Mescon received the William J. VanLandingham Commitment to Education award from the Georgia Economic Council on Economic Education. In 1996, he received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from the College of Charleston, and in 1997 he received an honorary doctorate of private enterprise and an honorary doctorate of business from The Citadel where he held a visiting Chaired Professorship. Other awards he has received are Entrepreneur of the Year from Ernst & Young/Venture Magazine; the Georgia Veterans' Small Business Advocate of the Year Award; and the National Award of Excellence, awarded to him twice by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Mike Mescon is the author or co-author of over 300 articles and books. He is the lead author of Business Today, the most successful introductory business textbook in the United States. Business Today received the prestigious 2002 McGuffey Award for longevity and excellence from the Text and Academic Authors Association. It was first published in 1976; now in its tenth edition, it is published in English, Spanish and Russian. He is also co-author of Management: Individual and Organization Effectiveness, a best-selling management text in the U.S. that has also been translated into Russian. Showing Up for Work and Other Key Business Success, earned Dr. Mescon the Georgia Author of the Year Award from the Council of Authors and Journalists. His book Memos to Management provides insights into creating a successful organization culture. Dr. Mescon has been a contributing writer for Delta Air Lines' SKY magazine and the Atlanta Business Chronicle. He has also co-authored an audio-tape series for Nightingale-Conant entitled Management Excellence: Leadership for the Future. Dr. Mescon is active in community affairs and public service including serving on the boards of the Boys Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, ALS Association (Lou Gerhig's Disease), Adaptive Learning Center, The Jewish Home, Northside Hospital, former Chairperson of the Metropolitan Atlanta Red Cross and Heart Fund Chairperson for the Georgia Heart Association, just to name a few.
